Lunar Vinyl

In my design, management and production module, I have been producing some branding concepts for a group-made business called ‘Lunar Vinyl’. Lunar Vinyl is a unique company which sells bespoke artwork sleeves and customised playlist records. The business was originally created by myself and two other classmates. The idea for the company was based on the revival of vinyl, and each of our love for music. Our group wanted to celebrate the love, warmth and happiness which vinyl brings to people. With this said, we have now been given the individual task to design the advertising, promotional concept and branding for the business. Similar to the group concept, I wanted my designs to represent the uniqueness of vinyl. Furthermore, how Lunar Vinyl is a brand which is personal to people. It holds meaning for different reasons. Vinyl reminds people of their youth and past memories. It creates nostalgia. I wanted these ideas to be incorporated into the designs.

Branding isn't my strongest subject. As I have outlined in the previous blog posts, my main passion and strength lies in illustration. Although branding is outside of my comfort zone, this project has really pushed my creative abilities. Sometimes it's good to try out new things, and get a flavour for something different.

I've tried to add an illustrated twist to the designs. I wanted to incorporate the eclipse into the shape of the vinyl record. Initially, my designs were quite busy and visually overwhelming. Once sharing these concepts with my lecturer, we discussed how simplicity often overrules the most decorative pieces. As my lecturer said, sometimes we have to design something busy for us to realise how to tone in back. After receiving these comments, I refined my logo slightly. I also changed the typography to represent the vintage and nostalgic theme of the brand.
