A master’s degree is something which I’ve considered for quite some time now. The opportunity to continue my studies and delve deeper into my practice fascinates me. Although things have been different this year, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time studying at the University of Chester. I haven’t just evolved as a designer but as a person. My people skills, confidence and independence have all blossomed. If I could do it all again I would. A postgraduate degree may offer the opportunity to advance these skills by further exploring my professional practice.

Alan Summers, the postgraduate leader, introduced the course as a ‘playful exploration of your ideas’. Similar to the third year, a masters is based on self-directed study. You are the one driving your own design practice. A postgraduate degree is for people who believe they have something more to offer and learn. It may be a question or subject which intrigues you. The two years of this course are dedicated to creating a design solution to this problem. A master’s degree is only beneficial if you believe it will enhance your career prospects. It’s not suited for individuals who have no end purpose or intent with their work. In that respect, you need to be fully dedicated.
Although I can see the benefits of this course, I don't believe it will help me achieve my long-term objectives. From the beginning of this year, I’ve been very set in what I want to do. Illustration has always been my main passion. Personally, I don’t think there’s anything else I can learn and gain from being in further education. It’s now time to spread my wings and enter the next chapter of my life. Although this is a daunting feeling, I feel as though I’m ready to start a new journey.
