For this project, I was keen to expand my interests in children's illustration through a new perspective. I wanted to create a product with meaning and purpose, helping children in some form of way.
Similar to the previous brief, I had to create a piece of work around a given word. As this weeks focus was on 'Remedy'. My understanding of this word stems from the idea of mending your mind and fixing a problem. Furthermore, finding an effective solution to overcome a problem. This interpretation led me to explore the subject of children's mental health. As we know already, this issue is an rising concern in today's society. Therefore I wanted to create some form of product that would help children to cope with these difficulties, ultimately making their lives a little bit better.
With this concept in mind, my idea was to create a series of 'Calm Cards'. Rather than being a game, these cards were designed for educational purposes. They provide children with useful strategies, mindfulness activities and coping mechanisms. The purpose of these products is to help children stay calm in stressful situations. The cards have been designed as pocket-size, enabling children to carry them anywhere.

These illustrations were inspired by some of my lockdown pieces. I've tried incorporating the same psychedelic patterns to help create this essence of calm.
The most challenging aspect from this project was designing a card's manual. I had to think about how the products could be used and played with. Originally, the instructions which I created were too complicated and overdetailed. I had to use child-friendly and simple language, allowing children to easily understand their uses.
